The Bullring gets a green makeover
29 Jul 2014
Following a biodiversity audit in 2010, we decided to improve the outdoor space around the Spiceal Street development.
Firstly, we created a green living wall outside restaurant Chaophraya on the open deck area between the East and West wings of the Mall. By 2013, the wall wasn't quite looking as green, so in 2014 we set up a twelve month maintenance and re-planting contract with Urban Planters for them to re-plant and monitor the irrigation system for the wall.
With the wall looking lovely and green again, we then asked Urban Planters to turn their attention to the rest of the vegetation around the restaurant area. Here, they implemented planters which are full of colour and updated the topiary bushes already in place for a cleaner finish.
All of our improvements are part of a regular maintenance programme which is partnered with Birmingham City Council and covers the vegetation outside of St. Martin's Church opposite the centre.
Whilst making the public outdoor area a nice place to visit, we also decided to make a little upgrade of our own facilities in the office! Within our centre Management Suite we also created a little herb garden on our staff balcony. This contains lots of yummy herbs for us to all share and looks great!
Our improvements seem to have gone down well with the public with many choosing them as a base for soaking up the summer sun we've been blessed with over the last few months. Long may it continue...
