Hammerson is one of Europe's leading property investment and development companies, who owns, operates, curates and develops award winning destinations that aim to deliver Net Positive impacts economically, socially and environmentally.
Hammerson recognises the importance of taking a proactive, strategic approach to environmental and in particular energy management. This pursuit of excellence is facilitated by an Energy Management System (EnMS) that enables the targeting and public reporting of our energy and carbon performance.
Our business activities have substantial impacts on the natural and built environment at all stages of the property cycle. We therefore commit to using best practice in the design and operation of our developments to minimise energy demand in the short, medium and long term, and procure energy in the most responsible way possible.
Hammerson recognises its influence on the environmental performance of others, and we commit to engaging with stakeholders to drive improvements in energy efficiency across our value chain. This is set out in our complementary Responsible Procurement Policy.
Managing our Impacts
We comply with and seek to go beyond relevant legislation and regulation. Through clear objectives and target setting and conducting regular and independent reviews of our progress, we aim to achieve continual improvement in energy efficiency and our wider environmental performance. This is facilitated by our Positive Places sustainability strategy and Net Positive 2030 target.
Taking a collaborative approach
All employees, advisers and contractors have a part to play if Hammerson is to meet its energy objectives. Responsibility for overall governance and implementation of this policy lies with Hammerson’s Positive Places Corporate Working Group, which is also tasked with periodically reviewing the policy to ensure applicability and adherence to best practice.
Responsibility for overseeing this policy and ensuring it is upheld lies with the Chief Executive and Chairman of Hammerson’s CR Board, David Atkins.
